Growing Through Challenge - Living The Father's Will

August 9, 1981

"Dear one, cease striving and know that I am God. Don't worry about anything but instead talk to Me about everything! This means things like the daily temptations, your business concerns, your personal study time, your cramped schedules, the little daily irritations, even the rearing of your children. Rest in Me... talk to Me about it before the pressures get to you, and let Me carry the burdens. I can and will bear them all."

Following Jesus' example of always choosing the Father's Will was not always an easy decision, but it was the path of undiluted inner joy... of fulfilling God's will for Him. I have been praying to be more like Jesus, so now... in a fresh way, let me dedicate my will to cooperate with His Spirit in me. Together, we will continually delight in doing the Father's will.

In spite of life's challenges, remember that every seeming crisis is just an opportunity to take a giant step forward in the grand adventure of trust in the Father and His divine plan.

This task and this moment is not something to 'get through', but is something to be savored in His presence, doing His will.

When thinking about life's purpose, perhaps the Father might say...

"Dear one, you have been longing for a purpose in your life... something which you feel is 'significant'... something more than just earning a living, something that uses the gifts I have given you. Balance that longing with the remembrance that "Life is but a day's work... do it well." Serving is the greatest thing you can do. Concentrate on serving your fellow man today... your tomorrow is in my hands.

Relatively few in this earthly pilgrimage ever get to spend their time doing what they would consider 'significant' things. But remember... every moment is sacred. Savor each moment in My presence... doing My will. That is the only way to a fulfilled life... one experienced moment at a time."

Work with this attitude... "Who can I serve today?", enjoying what I do and not fretting over all the unfinished tasks... and leaving the future in the hands of the Heavenly Father.

Father, as I think about what my life is amounting to, I believe that You may be showing me that I have erred in judging the significance of my daily tasks, and the people I come into contact with. Help me remember that all of life can be a ministry, and that nothing is more important than the individual human being I am dealing with at any given moment.

Help me, Father, to learn to savor each of these moments of service.

Father, thank you for your patience as I struggle from 'insight' to personal 'experience', and finally put it into my lifestyle 'practice'. New insights are only the starting point...I must build on these insights until they weave themselves into my daily lifestyle practice.

"Dear one, try this idea today... forget about yourself totally and experience the pure joy of my enveloping embrace as you become my instrument of ministry to share with others. Let's see what I can accomplish when you rely on Me and take self-interest out of the picture."

Father, as I reflect on my vision for the future, I realize how easy it would be to rush around the country, working myself into an over-committed and overwhelmed frenzy. Help me to slow down inside, really learning the lessons of a paced, calm, and serene spirit... totally at peace with Your eternal timing and Your plan for me.

I believe the Heavenly forces are arrayed to help us humans, responding to us in direct proportion to our commitment to choosing to do the Father's will in each present moment. What does that tell me about how to receive more divine help?

Father, I was thinking... "How could I presume on Your kindness, bringing things together one more time on my behalf, as in the past!" You reminded me, Father, that I have only begun to see the depths of Your involvement and faithfulness in our lives. Instead of exhausting your patient working behind the scenes, I have really just 'cracked the door' into the wonders of walking with and depending on You.

Since God, my Heavenly Father desires to be involved with everything about my life… if I attempt any daily task without conscious dependence upon Him (and His angelic or celestial helpers), I am working with the handicap of failing to draw upon my greatest resources.

If all through each day, I am in each segment attempting to “do God’s Will”, I can enjoy the comfort of knowing that I am in each moment living in the flow of transcendant heavenly help!

Who can even imagine what powerful, but unseen celestial beings are quietly, behind the scenes, adding their wisdom and influence to my God-centered efforts.
